I have stopped to look at a product in the store so many times just because of the name. If you make shampoo and you just call it "Shampoo" or "Hair Soap", I will most likely pass it up because it looks lazy and bland. You want to be sure you give your product a memorable name....
First, think of your audience. If you're making a product that you think will appeal to older customers with old-fashioned styles, you shouldn't name it "Hip and Cool Hair Gel" or "Freaky Fresh Dish Soap". You're going to want to go something that will connect with them better, maybe something like "Good Ole Country Bath Soap" or "Old Style Popcorn". On the other hand, if you were looking to appeal to children or young adults, you would select words that might appeal to people of that age.
Another thing to consider is ease of memory. You want a name that will stick in your customer's mind. This means you shouldn't make it too long, first of all! With all of the many products people come across these days, they don't have time to remember a 10-word product name.
Another great thing to consider is to make it catchy which can help with ease of memory. Fast Fresh Fungus Remover or Cool Guys French Fries are two examples of catchy product names.
When naming your products, it's important to consider your audience, keep it short and simple and also try to make it a little bit catchy so that your customers can remember the name. It may not be the most important thing you do but remember, your product's name will always stick with you so you better pick a good one!
