Ending up with an uneven shave and a razor-bumped face is the worst thing after taking the time to shave in the morning! Most men don't have time to go back through and get all of the spots that their razor missed the first time and razor bumps? Well, those just aren't cool. If you'd like to avoid a situation like this (and who doesn't), follow these easy to remember shaving tips - pick a good razor, use a proper shaving soap and don't forget your aftercare!
Pick a Good Razor
Everyone has a different kind of razor. With tons of brands, a few different razor types and prices ranging from $1-$150 (and up, depending on what exactly you're going for!), picking a razor can get confusing. First of all, I'd narrow my choices down to either a straight razor or a safety razor. Quality straight razors will usually be more expensive and they take time to get used to but they are known to produce a very nice, clean-shaven look. Safety razors are cheaper (and sometimes MUCH cheaper) than straight razors though they don't offer the kind of customization or close shave that straight razors do. Take your pick but whatever you do, avoid the 4-pack of razors for $1. This is not the way to go, I'm telling you!
Once you've decided between a straight razor and a safety razors, you have a few different options. You can ask advice from friends, do some research on the internet or just do your own research of trial and error! You're sure to find a razor that's perfect for your needs.
Use A Proper Shaving Soap
A glycerin-based shaving soap is an important ingredient in a great shave. Shaving soaps give you a nice lather that help to soften the beard. When your beard is softer, it's much easier to get a close shave. A quality shaving soap is going to cost a little more than your standard shaving cream but I find that the soaps do a much better job and they last longer.
Aftercare/Aftershave
I recommend using at least some kind of aftershave or aftercare. It doesn't have to be fancy or complicated. Shaving can irritate the skin so you need a little something to moisturize your face afterwards. Aftershave balms usually do a good job to moisturize and hydrate the skin. They come in many different scents but they also have unscented balms if you don't want to smell like a lemon or a flower!
Shaving can be tricky but with these tips, you can hopefully avoid some unattractive razor bumps and a patchy beard.
