Thrift shopping is a great way to save money while shopping. You can get great pieces for a lot less than they're worth! Still, there are some things you should know before you get thrifting:
Find a good thrift store
Well, that's a no-brainer, right? Still, some people end up paying more than they should at certain places becuase they think "Oh, it's a thrift store, it's a good deal!". Check out a few different stores in your area and compare prices, quality of clothing and brands. You can get an idea of the thrift store within the first 20 minutes your there - Is it overpriced, are the clothes falling apart, are the workers nice? Pick 1 or 2 favorites of the thrift stores you visit and make those your go-tos. You wouldn't want to waste gas driving to thrift stores that aren't worth the time!
Look the clothes over, then look them over again.
There is no point in buying a pair of jeans if they have a rip that's going to get larger and larger before the fabric completely falls apart. There is also no point in buying a great shirt that happens to have an ugly brown stain on the chest area. You need to look over the clothes for potential things that could make them unwearable. If you don't, you may end up spending money on something that will go in the trash!
Pay attention to brands.
Now I'm not someone who obsesses over brands but I know that the worth of a piece changes depending on the brand. You may pick up a shirt that's $4 and think oh, this is cute and that's a really good deal - Come to find out that it's a Walmart brand and you could have caught it on clearance at Walmart for $3! Pay attention to the brands so that you can judge whether or not it's actually worth the price. You may be able to get a brand new version of the same piece for the same price or even less!
There's more - stay tuned for part 2 sometime next week.
