There's nothing worse than getting a bad haircut or color and having to fake happiness as you pay your dues... After all, if you didn't communicate what you wanted well enough, you can't blame the stylist! My number one suggestion for people is to find images of what you want (or something similar) so that you can show them to the stylist.
If you give the stylist an actual visual representation, they'll be able to see what you want, firsthand! Your auburn and your stylists auburn are most likely very different so with a photo, you can get on the same page. It's the same with style - You may think parting your hair in a different spot is edgy while your stylist thinks a mohawk is edgy. Without a photo to clarify or at least give your stylist an idea, you're subjecting yourself to a number of miscommunications.
